We seek to provide your child with a complete nursery school experience. Over the two (or three) years your child is with us, we take them through a progression of skills, develop a love for school and learning, and provide them with a variety of enriching experiences all in a fun, warm, nurturing and structured environment.
The primary focus of the three-year-old curriculum is social development. In our three-year-old program, students will practice:
- Separating from parents with confidence
- Learning to be part of a group
- Interacting with teachers and peers
- Following classroom rules and routines
- Building pre-kindergarten skills such as following directions and developing fine motor skills (coloring, cutting, gluing, and beginning to write their names)
- Learning colors and shapes
- Being introduced to numbers and counting
- Being introduced to the alphabet
- Developing listening skills
- Developing gross motor skills
These skills are woven into a playful, musical, art- and literature-rich curriculum based on seasonal, holiday, science, and social studies themes.
The four-year-old program builds on the skills introduced in the three-year-old program, developing them to a greater degree. Like the three-year-old program, this curriculum is theme-based. Our focus in the four-year-old program is to prepare students for a happy and smooth transition to kindergarten.
In our four-year-old program, students will:
- Continue to develop social skills by learning to work cooperatively in a classroom setting
- Practice following more complex directions and working more independently
- Further develop listening and language skills
- Deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts such as shapes, size, patterns, number recognition and writing, counting, and measurement
- Continue working on both visual and sound recognition of the letters of the alphabet, and begin learning to write them
- Explore early science and social studies concepts in greater depth
- Further develop both fine (small) and gross (large) motor skills
The 4+ class builds on all of the previously developed skills, with a curriculum centered around a “Letter of the Week” approach. Each weekly letter is thoroughly explored and serves as the foundation for a variety of activities. This class moves at a faster pace than the four-year-old class in terms of concept presentation. The curriculum also includes science, social studies, art, and literature-based activities.
